This Halloween, mesmerize your adult-sized trick-or-treaters with this decadently hair-raising blood orange potion. Whip them up one at a time, or by the pitcher. But be careful. This Halloweenie-martini-inspired cocktail might just sneak up on you.
Optional: Cranberry Orange Spiced Sugar, for rimming
4 tsp. Cranberry Orange Meyer Lemon Jam
1.5 oz fresh lime juice
1.5 tsp rosewater
4 oz blood orange liqueur (such as Solerno)
5 oz vodka
Dried blood orange wheel
Optional: Dry ice for serving
If rimming your glasses with Cranberry Orange Spiced Sugar, run a cut lime wedge around the rim of two martini glasses or coupe glasses and then dip in sugar. Set aside.
Add lime juice, Cranberry Orange Meyer Lemon Jam, and rosewater to a cocktail shaker and stir with a barspoon until the jam is completely dissolved.
Add regular ice, vodka and blood orange liqueur to the shaker.
Shake vigorously. Double-strain into your prepared glasses (this means to use your hawthorne strainer on the cocktail shaker, AND pour through a fine mesh strainer into the glass to remove any extra pulp from the jam).
If using dry ice, place a very small chunk (you don’t need much!) into the bottom of each glass using tongs and/or gloves to avoid any contact with skin. Sip the drink slowly, making sure all dry ice is melted completely.
